Cannabis Types

Cannabis Types

Type 1-4

Cannabis is an incredibly diverse plant, with thousands of unique strains and a wide range of cannabinoid and terpene profiles. While THCa has dominated the spotlight in the modern cannabis industry, other cannabinoids play an equally important role in shaping the experience and therapeutic potential. To better understand this diversity, plant scientists classify cannabis strains into four main "Types," based on their cannabinoid content. Below, you'll find an overview of what sets each Type apart.

Triangle Hemp Seeds

Type 1: THCa Dominant

If you're looking for high-THCa strains with strong effects, we got you covered. Our Type 1 genetics deliver the intensity and potency regular cannabis consumers expect. The vast majority of flower sold in dispensaries is Type 1 flower. This is also what is sold as hemp THCa flower, popular in states without medical or recreational cannabis programs. Confusing? Yes it is. For a more in-depth explanation on THCa flower vs regular cannabis, check out our blog post.

Type 2: THCa:CBD Blend

Type 2 strains bring balance. With roughly equal levels of THCa and CBD, these genetics give a smoother, more functional experience without overwhelming intensity. Most varieties will have varying ratios of THCa:CBD, somewhere from 1:4 to 4:1. If you are looking to really dial in your ratio, you may be better off growing type 1 and type 3 and then mixing the flower before consuming.

Type 3: CBD Dominant

For clear-headed relief without intoxication, Type 3 genetics are CBD-dominant. These strains are perfect if you're interested in wellness benefits, focus, or simply want to grow cannabis without strong psychoactive effects. Consumers that are sensitive to THCa find these strains to be just right, giving them a relaxing effect without some of the less desired effects of high-THCa strains.

Type 4: CBG Dominant

Type 4 genetics focus on minor and emerging cannabinoids like CBG. These unique strains represent the frontier of cannabis breeding and are ideal for curious growers who want to explore beyond THCa and CBD. We find CBG flower mixed with Type 1 flower "throttles down" THCa in a similar way to CBD but with more of an energetic social effect.
